Summer Workwear & Cooling PPE

Heat is a workplace hazard, not just a discomfort. As the temperature rises so does the risk of heat stress, dehydration and the loss of concentration that leads to accidents. The practical defence is layered: reduce the heat the body has to shed by switching to lightweight shorts, short sleeve t-shirts and breathable polos, add active cooling where the work is hot or sustained, and keep the sun off the head and neck with a brimmed or sun shield hat. Hi-vis still applies in summer, so the lightweight hi-vis t-shirts here keep visibility to EN ISO 20471 while cutting the heat of a heavier garment.

Evaporative cooling garments are worth knowing about. Soak the vest, cap or crown cooler in water, wring it out and wear it, and as the water evaporates it pulls heat from the body for hours before a quick re-soak. They are a low cost way to keep outdoor and foundry teams working through a heatwave.
